KUALA LUMPUR, October 24 — The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) imposed onto the Tropicana Golf and Country Resort’s dormitory for workers will end tomorrow, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
“However, even if the ECMO is lifted from the workers hostel, the hostel is still subject to the conditional movement control order (CMCO) that is imposed on Selangor,” he said during his live press briefing.
The EMCO on the workers hostel was imposed after a worrying number of Covid-19 positive cases were detected there.
The EMCO started from October 12 and was scheduled to end tomorrow.
“Until October 23, 2020, the Ministry of Health conducted 503 screenings on the workers in the Tropicana workers hostel and 23 Covid-19 positive cases were recorded, and the 23 positive cases were sent to hospital for treatment,” he said, adding that the close contacts of the patients were also traced, and are all undergoing mandatory quarantine.
“Therefore on the suggestion from Selangor National Security Council (NSC), the Special Ministerial Meeting Committee has agreed to end the EMCO on the Tropicana worker’s hostel, beginning October 25, just like scheduled,” he said.
On October 12, the police confirmed that at least 23 employees who reside at Tropicana Golf and Country Resort’s dormitory for workers, tested positive for Covid-19.
Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal told reporters that 12 more employees had joined the list of 11 individuals who tested positive for Covid-19 on October 11 after being screened.
Nik Ezanee also said a probe had been launched after the Health Ministry officers lodged a police report on October 11.
The resort was allegedly found to be still operating even after the ministry had ordered it to shut down.
He said that it will be investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code and Section 22(B) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Act.
