KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 — Barisan Nasional (BN) will need to work with other parties if it fails to win a simple majority in the upcoming general elections (GE15), said caretaker prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

The Umno vice-president said that this may include the likes of Gabungan Parti Sarawak or Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.

“Whatever it is, let’s wait for the election results, then the (Umno) supreme council will make a decision,” he said when met by reporters after officiating the Media City building in Angkasapuri here.

“If we only have 85 seats, we won’t be able to form a government, so for sure we will work with other parties,” he added.

Ismail Sabri was responding to a reporter who had asked him to comment on the views of political analyst Azmi Hassan who last week said that there are only about 80 federal seats with a Malay-majority population.

Azmi said that even if BN won all 80 seats, they would still need more seats to form a federal government.

To note, any party or coalition needs to win at least 112 of the 222 federal seats to form a simple majority government.

Meanwhile, a two-thirds majority would entail winning at least 148 seats.

Malaysia goes to the polls on November 19.
