KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 — Islam does not belong to any one party as claimed by PAS, Kelantan Umno chief Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakob said in Kota Baru.

Ahmad Jazlan said that such assertions are dangerous and untrue, adding that Umno also fights for the religion and the rights of the Malays, Utusan Malaysia reported today.

“Honestly, Kelantan Umno is hurt and annoyed by the arrogant statement that contains elements of slander from the Kelantan Menteri Besar which means that the two state assemblymen from BN and Pakatan Harapan are against the struggle of Islam,” he was quoted as saying, referring to Kelantan MB Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.

“Statements like this are so dangerous because it can cause misinterpretations to the people as though Islam belongs to PAS alone, where in fact Muslims in BN and PH are also carrying out the same Muslim commandments,” Ahmad Jazlan was quoted as saying.

Ahmad Jazlan said that such statements could potentially harm the harmony between Muslims in Kelantan.

He reminded Mohd Nasuriddin to administer the state according to Quranic principles, fairly and with manners, and to take care of all Muslim relations.

“Look for the common threads, not the differences that could split the Muslims,” the Umno politician was quoted as saying.

Mohd Nassaruddin, who is also the Meranti state assemblyman from PAS, was sworn in as the new Kelantan menteri besar last Friday.

His speech at Dataran Ilmu in Kota Baru, in which he described the Barisan Nasional victory by Mohd Syahbuddin Hasyim in Galas and Pakatan Harapan’s win by Dr Hafidzah Mustakim in Kota Lama as going against the struggle of Islam, made waves on social media.

BN and PH had fought on the same side for the August 12 six state elections following the alliance forged at the federal level after last November’s GE15.

Mohd Syahbuddin and Dr Hafidzah had demanded an open apology from Mohd Nassuruddin and said they would sue him in civil court if the PAS politician did not comply

BN and PH’s Rantau Panjang division also made police reports against Mohd Nasuruddin for his statement.
