Isetan S'pore stocks Tokyo Banana, sold out within two days

SINGAPORE – Are you craving the famous Tokyo Banana, and the travel restrictions are making it hard for you to satisfy your cravings? Isetan Singapore had listed the Japanese snacks at S$9.90 for four pieces on 20 June; however, the snacks are now sold out due to a massive response.

The announcement was first shared on their Facebook page: "Exclusive at Isetan - #isetanscottsTokyo Banana. You no longer need to travel to Japan just to enjoy Japanese snacks."

The departmental store had initially listed the food product on their online store and at Isetan Scotts B1 supermarket. In their Facebook post, Isetan Singapore thanked shoppers for their “enthusiastic support,” adding that they are “working hard to get them back as soon as possible.”

Tokyo Banana, a Japanese banana-shaped sponge cake with cream filling, is arguably the most popular souvenir to bring back from Japan. The original flavour comes with banana custard cream filling. First going on sale in 1991, the Tokyo Banana brand has since expanded to 12 different flavours and confectionery, including coffee milk flavour Tokyo Banana and maple flavoured castella cake.

To make it possible for Tokyo Banana to be exported to Singapore for sale, Isetan Singapore wrote that the brand has “developed a new banana custard cream that maintains its signature texture and flavour even after thawing. Making it possible to ship Tokyo Bananas to Singapore without losing quality.”

They added that the Tokyo Banana should be consumed within seven days of defrosting, and there is a maximum purchase of two units per order on their online listing.
