Isabella Rossellini and Adam Sandler may share the screen on Spaceman, but the two were never in the same place at once.

Rossellini recalled working on the Netflix film while speaking with PEOPLE at the Problemista premiere on Tuesday.

"Well, we worked right under Covid. So it was a little stressful because we had to be very much in isolation," she says. "And I had some scene with Adam Sandler, but since he was in space in the film, I've never seen him. I just talk to his screen, because also then they tried to keep people separated."

The actress says it was "an unusual way of filming," but the movie is "quite good."

The film focuses on the story of Jakub Prochazka (Sandler), an astronaut who "realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth" six months into a solitary research mission.

During his mission, he encounters a creature named Hanuš (voiced by Paul Dano) who works with him "to make sense of what went wrong before it is too late." Carey Mulligan plays his wife, and Rossellini plays his commanding officer.

When asked how Spaceman compares to some of her other roles, she tells PEOPLE that she sees the job as the same whether it's on a "big film or a small film."

"When you work with people, it's the same. You know, it really is the talent," she says. "You know, you might be paid more or less but the actual work — in Julio's film I was just a voiceover so I was never on the set. I went one day to say hi, maybe the sets, they don't have that many people. But to me, the work among actors or listening to [the] director is the same whether it is a big film or a small film."

Mulligan revealed in a previous interview with Netflix that she watched all of Sandler's movies before working on the film.

"I'd never met him. I didn't meet him until I got to Prague to shoot the film. Everyone said he was the best, but he really was," she said. "I loved every day I got to spend with him as well as every day I got to act with him."
