(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) IRAQI FEMALE CARPENTER, NOUR AL JANABI, SAYING:

"This practice officially became a business for me around one year ago but I have been doing it for four or five years. I like carpentry a lot and I like the equipment used and working with wood. I feel that I can make whatever shape I want out of wood. It was a hobby at first and then it became a business one year ago."

Nour al Janabi had to get her family's blessing

to do what many in Iraq consider to be a man's job

She now says they support her venture

which earns her around $200 a month

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) IRAQI FEMALE CARPENTER, NOUR AL JANABI, SAYING:

"Regarding my family's reaction, in the beginning they were concerned about me, especially my siblings, they were concerned about my hands. They were concerned that such a profession will have a negative impact on a woman's skin and body. They asked me to stay away from it because it wasn't suitable for me. But with time, they became proud of me when they noticed my determination and my success."
