IOI Properties Group (IOIPG) launched its ‘IOI Water For Life’ project in July 2021. It was conceptualised in line with the Group’s Strategic Themes of Changing Mindsets and Urban Green and in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 6 and 17. The project, in collaboration with Pertubuhan Komuniti Elite, was aimed at providing portable water filters to communities that do not have access to treated or clean water.

‘IOI Water For Life’ represents the Group’s commitment to address the challenges of water security among underserved communities in Malaysia. Hence, in collaboration with our business associates, we contributed the water filters to those communities that do not have access to piped water and rely on untreated water sources such as wells, ponds and rivers. The consumption of contaminated water can cause diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, dysentery and typhoid. Therefore, water security plays an important role in the health and well-being of any community. Furthermore, the quality and sustainability of water resources are critical to the survival of people and the planet. IOIPG has since provided these filters to a few villages, namely Kampung Orang Asli Gunung Arung in Endau, Johor; Kampung Orang Asli Pasir Salam in Ulu Tiram, Johor; and Kampung Chemomoi in Pahang.

Subsequently, in October 2022, IOIPG also partnered with Efinity Social Enterprise to organise its latest activity under the ‘IOI Water For Life’ project. Employee volunteers from Team IOI distributed water filters to 172 Orang Asli families in Kampung Orang Asli, Kg Sg Lalang Baru at Hulu Langat, Selangor and organised a demonstration on the use and maintenance of the water filters. This was to ensure that the families have access to clean drinking water. Additionally, Team IOI also donated daily necessities such as milo, canned food and biscuits among other daily necessities to the community.

“I am proud to participate in the ‘IOI Water For Life’ project, contributing water filters to this Orang Asli village. As part of Team IOI, this visit is a very fulfilling experience for me as I am making a difference and helping a marginalised community,” said Nurul Atikah, a Team IOI volunteer from Customer Relations Unit of IOI Resort City.

Norastia, a Temuan villager from Kampung Orang Asli, Kg Sg Lalang Baru added, “We are all very thankful to receive these water filters. They are easy to use and provides us with clean drinking water every day.”

‘IOI Water For Life’ illustrates the Group’s concerted efforts in creating positive impacts for communities in need through employee volunteerism. It also demonstrates IOIPG’s vision to be a Trusted. brand that contributes toward the well-being of society.
