Invites to Elizabeth Holmes's Wedding Were Sent Out Weeks Ago
In between making court appearances for allegedly defrauding investors out of millions of dollars with a defective blood-testing device, Elizabeth Holmes is reportedly also planning her wedding to fiancé, Billy Evans.
The former Theranos CEO and her ex-boyfriend, former Theranos president Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, are being charged with nine counts of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. They appeared together in court in San Jose, California, on Monday, and are due back in court in July to discuss a trial date.
According to a new feature from The New York Post's Dana Schuster, Holmes is moving forward with her wedding to Evans, a 27-year-old hotel heir and a 2015 MIT grad, despite the pending trial.
The couple got engaged around four or five months ago and wedding invitations were sent out just over four weeks ago, according to the Post.
“He gave her his MIT signet ring. Billy and the MIT ring, they are inseparable. He always wore it on his pinky finger,” a colleague of Evans at Luminar Technologies, a company that produces sensors for self-driving cars, told the outlet. “He could snap his fingers and have a triple-A diamond engagement ring instantly if he wanted to. But if you give her some extravagant ring, it could end up owned by the feds if she has to give up her material possessions.”

The couple met at a party in 2017, where Evans was immediately swept off his feet. “Days later, I was hanging out with Billy and he said, ‘You won’t believe who I met! She’s not as the articles portray her to be,’” an anonymous source told the Post.
They struck up a romance and Holmes started showing up at Luminar, her Siberian husky Balto (Holmes, let's not forget, told former Theranos employees that Balto was a "wolf") in tow. Luminar employees, understandably, felt on edge with her in the office.
"...You have this total fraudster in the office while you have investor meetings," the source said. "If I was an investor and I saw [Holmes] walking down the hallways, I’m going to be like, ‘Holy s–t, get me out of here!'"
Apparently Evans' parents, William and Susan Evans, don't exactly approve of the pair. Evans' grandfather founded Evans Hotels and his parents now own three exclusive Southern California hotels.
“He’s had a lot people very close to him sit him down and have a talk,” the Post's source said.“‘This could be the biggest mistake you’ll ever make.’ ‘The negativity around her could blow back on you.’ ‘You’ve never encountered anything like this.’ ‘You need to think hard about what you’re doing.’ ”
The warnings have fallen on deaf ears. Billy is like a "shiny new toy" to Holmes, a source told the outlet. "She’s super enthusiastic about being with him."
No word yet on the when the nuptials will take place, who is planning the affair, or what the bride will wear on the big day. A white turtleneck, perhaps?
