International Space Station Captures Smokey Skies From Newly Sparked California Wildfire

Large smoke plumes were seen from the International Space Station as a newly sparked wildfire was burning near Santa Barbara, California, on the evening of October 11.

This footage, recorded from a NASA feed by ISS Above, shows smoke from the Alisal Fire burning in the region at 5:40 pm local time.

According to official reports the blaze was sparked at 2:30 pm local time and quickly grew to 1,000 acres, or 4 square miles, in size.

Evacuation orders were in effect for residents in the Refugio Canyon as approximately 100 structures were under threat from the fire. Credit: ISS Above via Storyful
