Instacart expanding into restaurant takeout
Grocery delivery service Instacart is expanding into restaurant takeout, it said in a press release Tuesday.
Instacart is partnering with Uber Eats, the restaurant delivery service app, for the new line of business, according to the release. It said in upcoming weeks, its customers “nationwide will be able to use the Instacart app to order from hundreds of thousands of restaurants, powered by Uber Eats.”
“Through this partnership, Instacart customers now have access to both the best online grocery selection in the U.S. and restaurant delivery, making it even easier for them to conveniently tackle all their food needs from a single app,” Fidji Simo, CEO and chair of Instacart, said in the release.
There will be a new “‘Restaurants’” tab in the Instacart app, where users can find local restaurants, order from them and track their deliveries, per the release.
Those who pay for Instacart Plus, a service that costs $99 per year or $9.99 per month, will also get free delivery on restaurant orders over $35.
“Our goal is to make it effortless for people to go anywhere and get anything,” Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, said in the Instacart release. “We’re excited that this new strategic partnership with Instacart will bring the magic of Uber Eats to even more consumers, drive more business for restaurants, and create more earnings opportunities for couriers.”
