‘Inside Out’ sequel introduces Anxiety, and the internet is loving it
Great news for anyone who sobbed their way through Disney Pixar’s Inside Out and/or owns stock in Kleenex: the sequel is coming, and Pixar just dropped the first trailer. In it, we get a glimpse of the new emotion who’s coming onto the scene in the second installment — anxiety — and she’s already stealing hearts all over the internet.

Inside Out 2 is a sequel to the 2015 coming-of-age film that followed 11-year-old Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) and the five emotions inside her brain: Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), Fear (Bill Hader) and Anger (Lewis Black).
For those who don’t remember the first movie, we followed Riley as she struggled to adjust after her family moved from Minnesota to San Francisco — and we followed Joy and Sadness inside her mind as they learned to work together to balance the two emotions that Riley was inevitably going to feel throughout her life as she grew up.
The trailer for the sequel doesn’t reveal too much about the plot, but we do learn that Riley is now 13 years old. We get another look inside her brain and see all the emotions still there. Then, as Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train” starts to play, a construction crew with a wrecking ball bursts onto the scene. They destroy the familiar control panel that Riley’s emotions are used to and replace it with an orange one with unfamiliar buttons. As Joy and the other emotions investigate, they discover the new emotion who’s behind the change: the orange, frazzled Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke.
All over social media, people immediately related to the new character.
