“Inside Out 2” passes “Incredibles 2” to become highest-grossing Pixar movie of all time
The box office hit of the summer has pulled in over $1 billion in global ticket sales.
Disney and Pixar have just registered a new core memory thanks to the box office success of Inside Out 2.
After the animated sequel previously crossed the $1 billion mark in global ticket sales after just two weeks in wide release, the studio announced Wednesday that Inside Out 2 has become the highest-grossing Pixar movie of all time.
The movie added $17.4 million on Tuesday, pushing its worldwide total to just under $1.252 billion — passing the final haul of 2018's Incredibles 2, which pulled in $1.243 billion (unadjusted for inflation) across its entire theatrical run.

Compared to the earnings of all animated films, Inside Out 2 stands at No. 5 on the all-time list, with the 2019 Lion King remake taking the top spot with $1.663 billion, followed by Frozen II with $1.454 billion, The Super Mario Bros. Movie with $1.362 billion, and the original Frozen with $1.29 billion — all totals that are also unadjusted for inflation.
The film has room to grow in the weeks ahead, as it's still performing well at domestic theaters one month after its debut, and has yet to open in Japan, where it hits theaters on Aug. 1.

Upon its release in 2015, the first Inside Out — about a gang of personified emotions navigating maturity inside the mind of a young girl — made $859 million at the global box office, and won Best Animated Feature at the 2016 Oscars.
Both projects feature an ensemble cast of voice actors, including Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan, and Bobby Moynihan. Original stars Mindy Kaling and Bill Hader did not return for the sequel, with Liza Lapira and Tony Hale taking over their roles, respectively. Other new additions to the sequel's cast include Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Lilimar, Yvette Nicole Brown, and June Squibb.
Inside Out 2 is now playing in theaters.
