A Rikers Island inmate was captured after trying to escape from the New York prison by jumping into the East River during recreation time on June 18, local media reported.

Two correction officers assigned to the K-9 unit, identified by WABC as Larry McCardle and Gregory Braska, were reported to have jumped into the river and pulled the inmate out.
