Injured Octopus Uses Rusted Tin Can for Shelter

An injured octopus sought refuge in a rusted tin can on the ocean floor, footage captured by a Victoria diver shows.

In the footage shot by Jules Casey, and shared to Instagram on June 7, the octopus can be observed emerging for the tin can to hunt. Casey, an experienced diver, also noted that one of its tentacles was injured.

In the post, Casey wrote, "By the time the Octopus was ready to return to the safety of his rusty, old can he’d discovered it was now covered by an eleven-armed starfish. The Octopus moved around the can trying to find the opening but it was completely blocked by the starfish.

She added, “The Octopus watched and patiently waited for the slow moving eleven-armed starfish to eventually move away from the rusty can.”

Casey often posts footage of what she sees below the waves at Port Phillip Bay to her OneBreathDiver Instagram account, where she has almost 100,000 followers.
