JAKARTA, Sept 17 — The popular Pop Mart character Labubu is going viral again, this time for creating a shopping frenzy at the Pop Mart store in Gandaria City, Indonesia last Friday.

Chinese figurine and blind box maker Pop Mart has long been popular with collectors but after Blackpink member Lisa posted about her love for Labubu, fans and collectors have been fighting for the character’s merch.

On September 13, after hearing of a possible restock of Labubu, interested buyers had started lining up outside the store as early as 7am according to people on social media.

Pop Mart Indonesia had posted on Instagram that there would be a lot of Labubu merchandise available, drawing many hopefuls to queue up.

Various images and TikTok videos have circulated at the event with one particular video showing an angry crowd when word came that Labubu was sold out.

After the response Pop Mart Indonesia halted walk-in purchases and asked would-be buyers to register online for sales on September 14.

As for Malaysia, the popular series is also sold out on the official website with fan Facebook groups even popping up to share updates or trade figures.

Fans should also beware of fakes being sold via resellers and be mindful that even authentic Labubu is being sold for 100 per cent markups or more.
