A sneak peek clip shows vegetarian Boy George being presented with fermented plum burritos and told by hosts Ant and Dec that he must eat six plums.

He gets off to a quick start as Ant says: "Fermented plums. Doesn't sound too bad. You've got to eat six.

"Oh, he's popping them in, he's not hanging around."

Boy George replies: "The taste. They taste like perfume. It tastes like you're being poisoned.

"It's disgusting, really disgusting, and I can eat anything."

Regular viewers of the show will know that the vegetarian option is unlikely to be anywhere near as disgusting as what Hancock will be presented with for his own eating challenges.

Previous series have seen contestants choke down such delicacies as sheep anus, camel toe, kangaroo penis and fish eyes.

This will be Hancock's third trial in a row, with many outraged viewers having vowed to vote him into every trial in anger at his decision to take part in the show.

Former health secretary Hancock has been accused of insensitivity towards those bereaved by COVID as he was responsible for many of the lockdown rules, including a disastrous care home policy that led to thousands of deaths.

He was also caught breaking his own social distancing rules by having an affair with his aide Gina Coladangelo, forcing him to quit his role, but is still an elected MP and has been accused of failing his constituents by taking part in the show.

When Hancock made his late entry to camp, Boy George told Scarlette Douglas: “You know, at the beginning of the pandemic my mum was in hospital. I wasn’t allowed to see her. I thought she was going to die. I was tweeting Greenwich hospital going, ‘Please look after my mum.’ I used my name, I was like ‘Please look after my mum.’ And they did, she was fine…

"I feel like, I don’t want to be sitting here like I’m having fun with him. It’s difficult for me because, you know, I had something happened, if my mum had gone, I wouldn’t be here now. I would have gone when he walked in.”

He later told the Bush Telegraph: “If I had lost my mum, I would go. And I feel a little bit selfish, you know, just kind of… everyone’s so nice to him and I was like Jesus, what are we going to do? I don’t want to spoil this experience for myself."

In Thursday's episode, Babatunde Aléshé questioned Hancock about the scandal that led to him quitting as health secretary.

Hancock said: "I messed up and I fessed up. I resigned and it’s no excuse but I fell in love, right? That also had a lot of other consequences obviously."

But Aléshé replied: "You didn’t just ‘fell in love’ you were grabbing booty bruv!"

I'm A Celebrity airs the full eating trial tonight at 9pm on ITV.
