Icy Conditions Force Road Closures in California
Heavy snowfall from a slow-moving winter storm forced several road closures in California on Friday, February 24, as authorities warned people not to travel unless necessary.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said heavy snow and ice forced the closure of part of Interstate 5 over the Grapevine, as well as California State Route 58 between Mojave and Bakersfield.
Part of State Route 178 near Lake Isabela was closed due to snow and rocks, while State Route 168 was closed at Shaver Lake due to snow.

- Good morning from the California Highway Patrol Mojave area. This was just sent in from one of our officers on State Route 58 in between Mojave and Tehachapi. There is heavy snow in the higher elevations and the freeway is icing over.
So State Route 58 has been closed. We will update this page when the freeway opens up again. In the meantime, please use Caltrans QuickMap for road condition updates. That's Caltrans QuickMap. Thank you. Have a good day. And again, please avoid the area and only drive if you absolutely have to.
