An iconic part of Indiana Jones history has been snatched up at auction.

On Thursday, Aug. 15, a "screen-and-photo-matched" fedora worn by Harrison Ford in 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom sold for $630,000, according to a release from Propstore.

"This fedora was made specifically for the second installment of the Indiana Jones series and matches film shots, production stills and behind-the-scenes footage of Ford in the village set on location in Sri Lanka, in the mine cart chase shot at Elstree Studios, and in the river sequence shot in the U.S.," reads a description of the item on its official auction listing.

It was also worn by stunt performer Dean Ferrandini, "who worked on the raft sequences in the U.S.," and in fact came from the late Ferrandini's "personal collection."

"Included with the fedora are previously unpublished photos of veteran stuntman Ferrandini in costume as Indiana Jones as well as a letter of authenticity signed by Dean Ferrandini's wife Keefe Ferrandini," the description adds.

According to the listing, the fedora boasts a "slight update" in its design from 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark, the first film in the famed Steven Spielberg adventure franchise.

"Costume designer Anthony Powell and assistant costume designer Joanna Johnston worked closely with Herbert Johnson on the update that incorporated a more tapered crown than the prior film," the description continued.

"The sweatband is notably stamped with the initials "I J" in gold, a feature applied specifically to the hats Herbert Johnson made for the three original installments of the Indiana Jones saga," it continued. "It also features some makeup residue at the front of the sweatband."

Aside from the Indiana Jones fedora, Propstore's sold lot also included a motorized Batwing used by Michael Keaton in 1989's Batman ($406,250), a Ghostface costume from the original Scream (1996) worn by Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard ($270,900) and a Handbook for the Recently Deceased prop from 1988's Beetlejuice ($34,650), among several other high-ticket movie props.

Indiana Jones has spanned five films over the course of 40-plus years, all starring Ford, 82. Aside from Raiders of the Lost Ark and Temple of Doom, the saga includes Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023).

Ahead of the release of the latter film, Ford appeared to momentarily choke up as he looked back on the franchise's legacy while speaking with BBC Radio 1.

"Can I just say, on behalf of all the fans, thank you. It's been such an adventure, we love you so much. I don't want to make you blush or anything, but you mean the world to us," journalist Ali Plumb told Ford at the conclusion of his interview alongside costar Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

“And I must say to you, thank you, sincerely," Ford responded. "It means the world to me.”
