Residents on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland witnessed a glowing sky on March 19, as a volcano in the area began erupting following weeks of seismic activity.
Officials in Iceland confirmed the eruption of a volcano on the peninsula, located near the capital Reykjavik, on the evening of March 19.
The eruption did not come as a surprise. In recent weeks, an uptick in seismic activity has been monitored in the area, leading to expectations of an eruption.
