IAEA Team Arrives in Zaporizhzhia Ahead of Nuclear Plant Visit

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency and a team of officials arrived in Zaporzhzhia Oblast, southern Ukraine, on Wednesday, August 31, amid ongoing concerns about the security of the nuclear plant there.

The delegation arrived in Kyiv on Tuesday and were expected to visit the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Enerhodar on Thursday.

The facility has been under Russian control since March but is staffed by Ukrainians.

Safety at the Zaporizhzhia plant has been a concern amid shelling and damage.

The IAEA said on Tuesday that the mission’s aim is to “bring clarity to the situation and help address any contradictory information about the status of the facility, its operation and the damage it has sustained.”
