Hurricane Laura made landfall as a Category 4 storm near the Louisiana-Texas border late August 26, “severely” damaging the town of Lake Charles, according to reports.
Hurricane Laura hit Cameron, about 45 miles south of Lake Charles, with sustained winds of 150 mph.
Gov John Bel Edwards said at a press conference that at least four people had died in the storms, including a 14-year-old girl.
The National Hurricane Center warned of “unsurvivable” storm surge, extreme winds, and flash flooding across Louisiana, and said that waters could penetrate up to 40 miles inland from the coastline.
