Huriyyah Muhammad Wins Producers Award From Sundance Institute and Amazon Studios

Huriyyah Muhammad, producer of Ekwa Msangi’s U.S. dramatic competition entry “Farewell Amor” at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, on Sunday received this year’s Sundance Institute / Amazon Studios Producers Award for narrative feature producer.

The awards honor bold vision and a commitment to continuing work as a creative producer in the independent space.

“Farewell Amor” follows an Angolan immigrant named Walter who is joined in the U.S. by his wife and teen daughter after 17 years apart. Now absolute strangers sharing a one-bedroom Brooklyn apartment, they struggle to overcome the emotional distance between them. Msangi wrote and directed the film, which stars Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Zainab Jah, Jayme Lawson, Nana Mensah, Joie Lee and Marcus Scribner. Muhammad produced along with Sam Bisbee and Josh Penn.
