Cyber specialists of Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (HUR) are conducting a large-scale DDoS attack on electronic services of Russia, source in Ukrainian intelligence service told NV on July 5.

DDoS attack in Russia disrupted work of a number of government agencies and private companies. Roskomnadzor notes that failure occurred due to an alleged “crash in the main communication network,” but NV’s source says that the real reason is a large-scale DDoS attack carried out by cyber specialists of HUR.

The source noted that as of 11:00 a.m. EET, residents of Russia did not have access to different governmental websites and a number of institutions, such as the ministries of defense, finance, interior affairs, justice, industry and energy, information technology and communications, as well as emergency situations.

In addition, websites and services of Russian Federal Tax Service were downed. Russian Customs Service acknowledged the fact of a DDoS attack on telecom operators, which made “information exchange with participants in foreign economic activity difficult.”

Also, Russians do not have access to services of some banking institutions, such as Sberbank and Alfa Bank. Serious interruptions are also observed in work of social network VKontakte. In addition, state registry office website has been down for several days in some regions of Russia.

The United Aircraft Manufacturing Company also faced a malfunction, reporting that they do not have access to the network. There were also malfunctions of servers of Russian cloud storage company Gosoblako (state cloud).
