Hunter Biden trial: What to expect on Day 3

Hunter Biden’s trial in Wilmington, Del., enters its third day Wednesday.

President Biden’s son is facing charges over lying on a federal form when purchasing a gun in 2018. On the form, he wrote that he was not a drug user, but he was addicted to cocaine at the time. Twelve jurors and four alternates for the federal criminal trial were selected Monday, and multiple Biden family members, including first lady Jill Biden, have attended the trial in recent days.

Here’s what to expect as the trial enters its third day.

Jill Biden returns

Jill Biden has come back to court for the third consecutive day in her son’s trial ahead of an expected trip to France to meet President Biden, who is in Europe to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day, according to The Associated Press (AP).

Hunter Biden’s ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle, on the stand

Kathleen Buhle, Hunter Biden’s ex-wife took the stand Wednesday, the AP reported.

Buhle had been married to the president’s son for more than 20 years when the pair divorced in 2017. She released a memoir in 2022, in which she recounted meeting Hunter Biden, and how his drinking was a factor in their marriage falling apart “under the merciless power of addiction.”

“Anyone who has seen addiction ruin a relationship, or been through infidelity and divorce, can tell you how devastating it feels,” Buhle told People Magazine in 2022. “But what I also realized through those crushing experiences is that I needed to find a way to stand on my own.”

First witness has already taken stand

Erika Jensen, an FBI agent assigned to the case, took the stand early Wednesday, the AP reported.

Hunter Biden’s defense cross-examined Jensen, questioning her about bank statements detailing large withdrawals the president’s son made.

The defense previously questioned Jensen for a short time before court was dismissed Tuesday, NBC News reported.

The Associated Press contributed reporting.
