The Hungarian Zoo on the brink of collapse

This Hungarian zoo is on the brink of collapse

after it was forced to close for most of 2020

(SOUNDBITE) (Hungarian) ZOOKEEPER, TIBOR TOTH, SAYING:

"If I shut this down then I shut down my own life. This is my life, my dream, my passion, as the title of my book says. I started this 25 years ago, so if I leave this profession then I don't have another one, I am only good with animals."

Location: Felsolajos, Hungary

Tibor Toth’s private zoo houses around 400 animals

and usually welcomes 100,000 visitors a year

Toth has raised 43 big cats over the years

including white lions and white tigers

(SOUNDBITE) (Hungarian) ZOOKEEPER, TIBOR TOTH, SAYING:

"If I am really honest, I have made a price list for my animals. I have made a list of zoos that I would get in touch with to sell (the animals) if the end comes."
