Hundreds of thousands of devotees take holy dip in India
STORY: Devotees were seen celebrating the day in northern Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh states. Meanwhile, the central Madhya Pradesh state came alive with marigold flower showers as ash-smeared ascetics and locals rejoiced while worshipping of Hindu Goddess Ganga.
According to Hindu mythology, 'Ganges Dussehra' marks the day when Goddess Ganga descended on earth after Sagar Dynasty's King Bhagirath extensively worshipped Lord Brahma, praying for his ancestors' souls to be relieved of their previous curses.
Even today, Hindus take a dip in the holy water of the Ganges River to wash away their sins and purify their souls.
