US Air Force Sets New Single-Flight Record by Evacuating 823 People From Kabul Airport (UPDATE)

Hundreds of Afghans and dozens of US citizens have been evacuated from Afghanistan in recent days, according to the US Air Force, after the Taliban took control of the capital on Sunday.

UPDATE: A previous count of 640 Afghan citizens aboard the flight has been updated to 823. US Air Mobility Command said on August 20 that the previous tally only included adults, and did not include 183 children on board.

A photograph posted to the official social media accounts of the air force, shows a crowded C-17 Globemaster III carrying evacuees from Kabul.

The Air Force also said the photograph was not related to the crew that “faced a security breach on the runway”, as seen in videos circulating on social media.
