Howe deems Newcastle attacker surplus to requirements giving Tottenham fresh hope of summer swoop
Newcastle United could look to sell winger Allan Saint-Maximin this summer amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports.
The 26-year-old has found it difficult to maintain a consistent spot in Eddie Howe’s starting XI this season, with the likes of Miguel Almiron, Joe Willock and Jacob Murphy all preferred by the manager.
As a result, Saint-Maximin could look to leave St. James’ Park, with Spurs thought to be big admirers of the exciting attacker.
This is according to 90Min, who claim Newcastle are ‘increasingly likely’ to sell the Frenchman this summer.
Saint-Maximin has had to deal with added competition recently after the arrival of winger Anthony Gordon from Everton in January, who has been utilized sporadically by Howe.
After falling down the pecking order, Saint-Maximin is believed to be frustrated and wants to play more consistently elsewhere, but would reportedly prefer to remain in the Premier League.
This will come as good news to Spurs, as they consider making a summer move for the Toon trickster.

Saint-Maximin could make an impact at Spurs
Since joining the Magpies in 2019, the attacker has become a fan favourite among the St James’ Park faithful after battling through tough times during the Mike Ashley era.
Overall, in 111 appearances for Newcastle, Saint-Maximin has scored 13 goals and provided 19 assists, giving him an average of 0.29 goal contributions per game.
While this may not sound too impressive, Newcastle were in a real mess when he arrived. In his first two seasons, he played his football under Steve Bruce in a team lacking creativity.
However, the Frenchman added that in abundance, with the tricky winger characterised by his direct, pacey and skilful style. Those methods can infuriate at times, but now and again, he is unplayable on his day.
Despite his quality, Saint-Maximin has made just seven starts in the Premier League this season, generally being used as a late substitute by Howe.
As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Tottenham are long-time admirers of the winger, so it wouldn’t be a surprise for them to pounce on the opportunity to sign him if Newcastle are willing to let him leave, as expected.
Antonio Conte has brought in several attacking recruits this season, including Richarlison, Ivan Perisic and Arnaut Danjuma.
However, Tottenham have failed to make any real positive strides, after being knocked out of the FA Cup and Champions League already, with Conte’s future now hanging in the balance.
Now, the only thing the London club have left to play for is qualifying for the top four, but with Newcastle and Brighton hot on their tails, there’s no guarantee that they will.
Saint-Maximin could potentially help give Spurs the cutting edge to compete for major trophies again, with reports suggesting a bid in the region of £30m could be enough to acquire his services.
