KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 — We will not be seeing Hong Kong superstar Jacky Cheung being a judge or mentor of singing competitions as he does not have the heart to criticise the contestants.

The 61-year-old confirmed he was once offered a lot of money to be a judge and mentor but he did not take up the offer, hk01 reported.

“Being a former contestant of a singing competition, I feel it is not easy. It is good enough to have the courage to perform on stage,” he said, adding he did not have the heart to criticise contestants.

Cheung was speaking at the new Hong Kong talk show We Love This Place, where he also shared he does not have the skills to teach the younger generation singers.

The 'God of Songs' started singing in 1983 where he participated in TVB's Happy Tonight but lost.

He, however, went on to win the Amateur 18-Hong Kong district singing contest the following year where he beat 10,000 talents and kickstarted his singing career.

Cheung will be performing in Malaysia this year although the date has yet to be confirmed.

The concert will be part of his world tour that will kick off in Macau on June 9.
