Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Toby Faroe has turned against his sister Celeste in the latest Hollyoaks first-look episode.
Earlier this week, paranoid Toby (Bobby Gordon) arranged a private meeting with brother Mitchell (Imran Adams) – seemingly intent on killing him – after learning his sibling had read the book written about his traumatic childhood.
Toby's meeting with Mitchell turned it into a chess match, when his brother asked him directly about the fire that killed The Red Door author Dr Ramsey Ley.
"I bet you wish she hadn't just vanished, so you could go and get [answers]," Mitchell questioned.
His questions set off Toby's irrational rage, leading him to lock them both inside the house so Mitchell could find out what "the little freak" was going to do next.
Trying to calm his brother down, Mitchell made an emotional appeal: "We were made together. We grew in the same womb together for months, and that woman took you away from me."
When Toby insisted that the doctor had turned him into a monster, Mitchell explained that his brother had actually been a victim – but encouraged him to destroy the pages of The Red Door to make a big step forward.
"Tear it up and start again. This, this isn't the end of your story," Mitchell promised.
The brothers then joined together as they tore up pages from the book, both weeping. Later, Celeste came home to find the door locked, initially fearing that Toby had killed Mitchell.
A despondent Toby insisted that he wasn't "a monster", but he was "a killer" for what he'd done to Lisa Loveday. It was only through using the tapping signals from their childhood that Celeste was able to get Toby to let her in.
However, the mood shifted when Celeste found out that Toby had indeed originally been intent on killing Mitchell, before ultimately letting him go once they'd bonded.
"You screwed up again. Now I have to manage you, again," she vented.
Toby then angrily turned on his sister, insisting that she was no different to the doctor who'd tortured them both as children.
He raged: "We may have escaped the burning house. The book went out of print but you're still here, waiting and watching for me to fail your tests… I could have done it you know. Ended him just like I did Lisa, so be very, very careful Celeste. An animal can turn on his handler just like that."
As the episode came to a close, Toby warned his sister that she was no longer in control!
