Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson has exclusively revealed that fans can be thanked for getting more classic episodes on Hollyoaks Favourites.

While the early repeats focussed on more recent storylines, the Channel 4 soap has changed course more recently to feature iconic characters from the past, such as Clare Devine, Brendan Brady and soon Silas Blissett.

Speaking to Digital Spy recently about the changes to Hollyoaks Favourites, Richardson – who introduces many of the episodes – explained: "If anything has been evident from the success of Hollyoaks, it's that they listen to the audience. We've even had storylines in the past where the outcome was up to the audience, as we saw with Gilly's trial with Jacqui a few years ago.

"They've handed this over to the audience as well, telling them to pick their favourites. It's the fans' show, at the end of the day, and it's important that we do listen and give them what they want.

"I don't think anybody could have expected us to be in this situation when we first began lockdown – that it would go on for this long. There's a massive 25 year back catalogue so the fans should be able to pick their favourites."

This week has relived some of Brendan Brady's most iconic moments – but are there any others that Richardson would love to see again in the future?

"That's a hard question. Somebody asked me recently to pick out the most iconic Stendan episodes. It's so hard! Even though it's the thing everybody always remembers from my character – being in that partnership – to actually pinpoint moments that everybody enjoyed is difficult.

"I keep going on about the teacup scene between Brendan and Amy Barnes, but that might have just been one scene," he remembered. "I can't remember the rest of the episode or whether that was a really decent one that we did. I just remember the teacup scene!

"There's the red shirt scene, which is what the fans call it. It was the first time Ste and Brendan kissed properly, in the cellar at the club.

"They'd kissed once before, but it was just a bit of a peck. It just depends whether the audience wants more."

Hollyoaks airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm. Wednesdays through Fridays on E4 will feature classic episodes called Hollyoaks Favourites to compensate for the soap suspending filming.
