Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks bosses have announced that Jeremy Edwards is returning for the show's 25th anniversary episodes.

The actor will reprise his role as original character Kurt Benson, who was killed off in 1999.

In upcoming scenes, Kurt rides back into Hollyoaks on his signature motorbike, reuniting with his old friend Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard).

Has Tony seen a ghost? All will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Kurt appeared in Hollyoaks' first ever episode in 1995.

During his time in the show, his memorable storylines included his turbulent love life and his deadly rivalry with evil villain Rob Hawthorne.

Six months after Kurt's departure in 1999, word reached the village that he had died in a jet-ski accident. Tony struggled with the loss of his best friend in the aftermath.

Kurt has returned from the dead once before, appearing in the 2013 series of Hollyoaks Later. He was seen as a vision in Tony's mind, who helped to protect Tony's son Harry from danger.

A Hollyoaks spokesperson teased: "Tony is under the manipulation of his own father Edward – dishevelled, living in a caravan and on the brink of divorce from his wife Diane.

"A time when he needs his best friend most, but is Kurt really back?"

Hollyoaks fans can look forward to first look footage of Kurt's return tomorrow (September 28), when a new trailer is released for the 25th anniversary episodes.

Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4. Classic episodes, titled Hollyoaks Favourites, air on Fridays at 7pm on E4.
