Holby City fans believe that the medical drama was wrong to kill off Xavier 'Zav' Duval, a recent poll has confirmed.
The fictional doctor – played by Marcus Griffiths – died onscreen earlier this month, when he was hit by a cyclist as he was travelling back to the hospital to expose Cameron Dunn's involvement in Evan Crowhurst's death last year.
The shock twist, which had been kept top secret prior to its broadcast, seemingly left viewers reeling, so Digital Spy decided to ask them to vote on whether it was the right decision narrative-wise.
Over 3,600 readers shared their opinion, with a staggering 91% of those participants agreeing that it wasn't.
They weren't the only ones who don't seem to be keen on how things went down either.
Following his character's demise on the show, Griffiths candidly told Digital Spy that he was a little disappointed with some of Zav's final scenes – particularly those he shared with on-off partner Donna Jackson (Jaye Jacobs).
"That was a big bugbear of mine, I won't lie," he said of the couple's lack of happy ending. "Obviously I knew Zav was about to kick the dust, but when he said goodbye to Donna, they didn't know it was going to be the last time they saw each other.
"I tried to make that last scene more emotional but the director, quite rightly, reminded me that Zav was on a mission and wouldn't have had time for a long conversation."
Holby City is now taking an extended hiatus until later in the year. The show airs on Tuesday evenings on BBC One.
