Hoda Kotb's Daughter Haley, 7, Is a Mini Team USA Gymnast as “Today” Anchors Surprised with Love from Home
"We’re going to need some tissues!" Savannah Guthrie said after the sweet shout-out
Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin got a well-needed message of love from home on Friday, Aug. 2, as the Today show trio continued to broadcast from the 2024 Summer Olympics.
A week into the Paris Games, the anchors were surprised on Friday's show with sweet videos from their kids, cheering them on and telling them how missed they are back in the States.
The clips were played at the top of the NBC morning show's 8 a.m. hour. Things kicked off with Melvin's son Delano, 10, and daughter Sybil, 7 (whom he shares with wife Lindsay Czarniak).
"Hi Dad," they said. "We miss you and love you very much."

Next up was Haley Joy, 7, and Hope Catherine, 5 — Hoda Kotb's two daughters. They were dressed in Team USA apparel, Haley Joy specifically wearing a leotard modeled after the ones the women's gymnastics team wore while they were getting gold.
"Hi Mommy, we love you and miss you," they said. "Go Team USA. Go U.S.A.!"
Finally came Guthrie's two kids with husband Michael Feldman: son Charley, 7, and daughter Vale, 9.
The two greeted their mom with a hello before sending separate messages. "We’re counting down the days until we see you again," said Vale, Charley adding, "I miss you and I love you."
"Go Team USA," they shouted.
Cutting back to Guthrie, 52, Kotb, 59, and Melvin, 45, the trio were visibly emotional. "Oh, okay. We’re going to need some tissues!" said Guthrie. "We miss home, we love them!"
She went on to note that it took a second for her to realize the surprise was real. "You know what’s so funny? I heard those voices in our ears before we came on and I was like, ‘That sounds like Vale and Charley.' But then I just was like, ‘That couldn’t be — I’m dreaming!' "
"That was so sweet," Kotb gushed. "We want to say thank you to our control room for doing that for us. That was really sweet."
"We love being here obviously, but we miss them," added Melvin, before blowing a kiss to the camera. "I miss you too guys, I love you."
The Today show will continue broadcasting from the Paris Games through Friday, Aug. 9. Along with Al Roker, the show's anchors have been covering all the national news while providing updates from the Olympics and conducting exclusive interviews with some of Team USA's biggest winners.
They've also been touring some of Paris' most iconic venues, like the Palace of Versailles, and taking in the City of Light's best food with special correspondent Ina Garten.
NBCUniversal is the home of the Olympics, with events airing across the network's channels and streaming on Peacock. On Monday, Aug. 12, Today will be broadcasting from New York City again for a celebratory show honoring Kotb's 60th birthday.
Today airs weekdays beginning at 7 a.m ET.
