Hoda Kotb is already loving the suburban lifestyle.

While chatting with her Today with Hoda and Jenna co-host Jenna Bush Hager on Wednesday, Sept. 4, Kotb, 60, opened up about her "awesome" experience walking her daughters Haley, 7, and Hope, 4, to their new school following their suburban move.

"Everything changed like that," Kotb recalled. "I have a whole new town and a whole new school, and all the new things. And we went for our first day of school."

She continued to detail how the morning of her girls' first day went down, sharing that she felt like "normal people" as the family of three walked to school together.

"I carried coffee and I had sneakers and I walked with my kids to school like normal people! It was awesome!" she said, adding, "I just loved doing it because I haven’t been able to do that, and it was so fun to walk my kids to school."

The proud mom then recognized her privilege, stating, "And I know that it’s like a privilege cause you gotta work, but I just thought, ‘You know what, sometimes chapters change you and you miss things. I’m gonna do it.’ "

"And to walk with them and all of a sudden, little kids started [appearing] — it was like a train of 10, 12 kids walking to school in a neighborhood," she continued. "There’s something about, to me, like, we’ve had seven great years in the city with kids and that’s amazing, but I also think kids need to have their feet in the grass and in dirt."

Kotb excitedly shared that Hope was collecting acorns as they walked, and the whole experience reminded her of her own childhood.

"I was thinking to myself, ‘This kind of, this is kind of how we grew up — how you and I grew up,' " she recalled, adding, "I called my sister right after and was like, ‘It’s like Morgantown, West Virginia, where we grew up on Dogwood Avenue.’ I said, ‘Do you remember the kids, and everybody’s outside.’ Someone will knock on the door!"

In response, Bush Hager highlighted how "the simplicity of walking to school" can be so thrilling after living in New York City, as well as Kotb's "bravery to take on a new chapter. The bravery to say, ‘It’s time. This one’s over and here we go.’ And watching your kids soar."
