HK Directors' Guild honours late filmmaker Ringo Lam

13 Mar – The Hong Kong Directors' Guild has recently awarded late filmmaker Ringo Lam with a post-humous Lifetime Achievement award at its 30th gala.

As reported on Mingpao, the Guild's new president Mabel Cheung, who announced the news, said that Lam's passing at the end of 2018 was a great loss for everybody, especially the film industry.

"We are here to remember Lam and express our deepest sorrow for our loss. This award is well-deserved," she said.

Director-producer Tsui Hark, who accepted the award on behalf of Lam's family, stated that the late filmmaker's family didn't come as they didn't want the attention.

"They didn't want to bring sadness into an otherwise joyful event. I hope that the Guild understands why they are not here with us," he said, adding that he too misses the director.

Lam, known for movies like "Prison on Fire" and "Triangle", was confirmed to have passed away on 29 December, after his wife found him unresponsive in bed.

He was 63.
