KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 — Things are looking up for Hong Kong broadcaster TVB as it announced its revenue grew by HK$572 million (RM346 million) in the first six months of 2022 compared with the same period last year.

Until June 30, TVB recorded a revenue of HK$1.8 billion (RM1.1 billion) from HK$1.2 billion (RM759 million) or 46 percent jump, 8 Days reported.

The total number of people following TVB’s official Weibo account as well as its artists and influencers also exceeded 130 million, which is a 217 per cent increase from last year.

This has been attributed to TVB’s active collaborations with China.

In the announcement, TVB stated that “as a key conduit for Hong Kong content to Mainland China, TVB has played a high-profile role in this phenomenon.”

The broadcaster added: “Infinity and Beyond, a singing show we co-produced with Mango TV earlier this year featuring Hong Kong artists and music, was among China’s top variety shows in 2022.”

According TVB’s production manager of non-drama (variety arts) He Xiaohui, Infinity and Beyond was the music variety show with the highest rating for TVB this year.

The show features established singers like Hacken Lee, Miriam Yeung, George Lam, Sally Yeh and Coco Lee.

It is said to have reached 70 per cent of the TV audience in Hong Kong.

Lee’s popularity also reportedly surged after his appearance on the show and he can now command a “six-digit sum” just to perform three songs at a gig.
