HK actress Maggie Cheung hops on Douyin bandwagon
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 — Hong Kong actress Maggie Cheung is the latest big name to join Douyin, China's equivalent of TikTok, amassing close to half a million followers and more than one million likes since Tuesday (Nov 22).
The 58-year-old shared two videos from 2005 and 2008 that attracted 55 million views, The Straits Times reported.
In a statement posted on the account, the former Miss Hong Kong runner-up said she found the videos while cleaning up her computer.
She added she had never thought of opening an account and had expressed surprised over the move.
"I will share these two videos first. Later date, I will share other videos," she wrote.
Fans were ecstatic Cheung had joined the platform but hope she would not use it to do livestream sales, hk01 reported.
Cheung, who was previously married to French director Olivier Assayas, is known for her role in the Wong Kar Wai classic In The Mood For Love.
Aside from winning Best Actress at Hong Kong Film Awards, Cheung was also awarded at Cannes and Silver Bear.
