KUALA LUMPUR, Sep 7 — Legendary Hong Kong actor Chow Yun-fat will be bestowed the Asian Filmmaker of the Year award at the 28th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).

The coveted award pays tribute to Chow’s outstanding versatile acting skills which propelled him to the top of Asia’s golden age of cinema.

Chow is the second Hong Kong actor to win this award, after Tony Leung was honoured last year.

The BIFF, which will take place from October 4 to 13, will be screening two of Chow’s classics, John Woo’s A Better Tomorrow and Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, reported Time Out.

The festival, which is held annually in Haeundae-gu, Busan, will screen over 200 films from 69 countries and celebrate the works of late Korean actress Yun Jung-Hee and late Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Chow will be present at the festival to accept his award, along with other celebrities like Luc Besson, Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Lee Issac Chung, Justin Chon and Fan Bingbing.

Since his debut in 1976, Chow, affectionately known as ‘Big Brother’, has starred in approximately 100 films.

Aside from lighting up the silver screen with his charismatic performances, he’s well-loved by fans the world over for his philanthropy, being approachable and staying humble.
