The Southern California baseball field made famous by several movies — including A League of Their Own — was badly damaged in an overnight fire on Thursday, Aug. 22, according to multiple reports.

"Massive" flames reportedly broke out at Jay Littleton Ballpark in Ontario, Calif. around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday night, according to ABC, and firefighters arrived to find the stadium and the dugout significantly damaged from the fire.

No injuries were reported, per ABC, and though the cause of the fire remains unknown, the outlet reported that arson investigators were on the scene on Friday morning.

Though the structure has been renovated over the years, officials told the outlet that there was likely a significant amount of old wood that contributed to the fire.

According to KTLA, the extent of the damage remains unknown.

Built in the 1930s, the Jay Littleton Ballpark is the setting of several baseball films, most notably the 1992 film A League of Their Own starring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and Madonna. Other notable films set at the park include Eight Men Out and The Babe Ruth Story.

President of the Ontario Eastern Little League Aaron Matthiesen told KTLA the news is "upsetting" for the community. "This ballpark has been a part of the city’s baseball history. I have two young kids in our league and the dream has always been that they get to play at Jay Littleton."

"It's a historical ballpark, place to play for our kids. Unfortunately, we're not going to be able to get a chance to play in it anymore," Matthiesen added.

The wooden grandstand built in 1937 serves as a beloved landmark for the community, according to the city. It is operated by the public works agency and was deemed a historical landmark by the city in 2003, per ABC.
