Historic Building Burns Down During Anti-Government Protests in Lima
Firefighters were seen extinguishing the smoking ruins of a historic building that caught fire during anti-government protests in Lima, Peru.
Drone footage recorded by Cristian Olea on January 20 shows the charred remains of the Casa Marcionelli, a residential and commercial building located near San Martín Plaza, as firefighters stand on an opposite building hosing down the smoldering ruins.
Addressing the damage, Paul Garnier, the Swiss Ambassador in Peru, said the building originally belonged to Severino Marcionelli, a previous Consul General of Switzerland in Peru. Built in the 1920s, the building had once been headquarters of the Swiss General Consulate, Garnier tweeted.
No one was injured in the incident, according to La Republica, although dozens have reportedly been killed in the protests. Credit: Cristian Olea via Storyful
