The first of Hisense’s 2021 4K smart TVs, the temptingly-priced A6G, is now available in the UK, and it offers more attractions than Alton Towers.

The slim, feature-packed model combines AI image processing and Dolby Vision HDR with a full hamper of streaming services - and as befits an official partner of UEFA Euro 2020, it comes with a Sports Mode that optimises sound and vision for the match.

I’ve had a 55-inch version on the Yahoo test bench, but it’s also available in 43-, 50-, 65- and 75-inch screen sizes, with prices starting at £429. Could this be the 4K flatscreen you’ve been waiting for?

Why we rate it

The Hisense 55A6GTUK (55 Inch) 4K UHD Smart TV with Dolby Vision HDR certainly looks on trend.

The dark grey bezel is enviably thin, with boots placed wide left and right. It’s a good TV to wall-mount (the wall-mounting kit is an extra £110 from Amazon), as it weighs just 11.3kg.

There are three HDMIs on the rear, for TV boxes, Blu-ray player and games console, plus a digital optical audio output for connection to a soundbar and Ethernet to support Wi-Fi.

The smart platform here is Hisense’s Vidaa U5, which offers easy access to Netflix, Amazon Video Prime, YouTube, Britbox and Rakuten TV, amongst others. There’s no Disney+ though, which is a shame.

Freeview Play is on hand to ensure all the main catch-up services (BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, My5 and All4) are available from a retrospective 7 day programme guide. There’s a choice of either Google or Alexa smart assistant compatibility, for voice control and search.

Obviously the A6G looks its best with native 4K programmes, like Sweet Tooth (Netflix) and Clarkson’s Farm (Prime Video), which look supremely sharp and detailed, but it’ll also upscale soaps just fine too.

To keep fast moving sports look super crisp, there’s Ultra Smooth MEMC motion compensation. To save mucking about with menus, the Sports Mode triggers this. It also gives a boost to green pictures and blue skies, with a stadium-like sound effect.

The set’s 2 x 8W sound system with DTS Virtual X processing has quite a lot of poke. When watching movies, try the Theater mode. This opens up the soundstage, making it larger and more immersive.

Hisense has been steadily refining its screens, and the A6G is arguably its best 4K value model yet.
