A sheriff’s deputy rescued a three-year-old boy from a burning house in Palm Coast, Florida, on October 17.Deputy Marcus Dawson arrived at the scene of the fire, and while checking out the perimeter he noticed movement from inside the building, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said.Upon further inspection, he found a little boy hiding from the smoke under a blanket, watching cartoons on a phone.The sheriff’s office said the father of the boy had gone to pick up dinner and left the child at home with an older sibling, before the fire ignited in the kitchen.The youngster immediately received medical attention, and all three residents of the home were safe. Four people, including two children, were taken to hospital after an explosion shook a housing estate in Ayr, Scotland, on Monday evening, October 18, police said.South Ayrshire Police said emergency services were called to the blast in Gorse Park at around 7:10 pm on Monday. U.S. lawmakers have accused Amazon's top executives, including founder Jeff Bezos, of possibly lying to Congress.On Monday, five members of the House Judiciary Committee wrote to Amazon boss Andy Jassy, accusing Amazon executives of possibly lying about the firm's business practices.They are now considering whether to refer the company for criminal investigation.The letter follows an investigation by Reuters which found that Amazon conducted a systematic campaign of copying products and rigging search results in India to boost sales of its own brands.Amazon denies the allegations.The letter states that "credible reporting" in the Reuters story "directly contradicts the sworn testimony and representations of Amazon's top executives – including former CEO Jeffrey Bezos.""At best, this reporting confirms that Amazon's representatives misled the Committee," it states. "At worst, it demonstrates that they may have lied to Congress in possible violation of federal criminal law".In response, an Amazon spokesperson issued a statement, saying the company did not mislead the committee and has sought to correct the record on, quote: "the inaccurate media articles in question."Since 2019, the House Judiciary Committee has been investigating competition in digital markets.Last year in sworn testimony before an antitrust subcommittee, Jeff Bezos said Amazon prohibits its employees from using data on individual sellers to benefit its own private-label product lines.

British supermarket group Asda said on Tuesday it plans to recruit 15,000 temporary workers for the Christmas trading period, joining a battle for staff in a tight labour market. Bitcoin hit a six-month high and was within striking distance of a record on Tuesday as traders bet an anticipated listing of a futures-based U.S. exchange traded fund could herald investment flows into bitcoin and cryptocurrency assets. Bitcoin, the world's biggest cryptocurrency by market value, rose as far as 1.5% during the Asia session to $62,991, its strongest level since the record peak of $64,895 in April. It is up some 40% in October on hopes that the advent of bitcoin exchange traded funds (ETF), of which several are in the works, will allow billions of dollars managed by pension funds and other institutional investors to flow into the sector.
