Heavy Rainfall Triggers Flash Flood Emergency in Eastern Kentucky

Flash flooding hit parts of Kentucky in the early hours of Thursday, July 28, as the National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency for the area.

Footage posted to Twitter by Austin Gibson shows lightning flash as floodwater accumulates near Salyersville, Magoffin County, on Thursday morning. According to Gibson, he was traveling on Route 30 to visit his brother.

In other parts of the state, the NWS warned residents in Clay, Knott, Leslie, Owsley, and Perry counties to move to higher ground, and described the situation as “extremely dangerous and life-threatening.” Credit: Austin Gibson via Storyful
