Flooding remained a risk for Tucson even after heavy rain moved out of the area on Monday, July 19.
Footage released on Facebook by the Tucson Department of Transportation & Mobility shows the ephemeral Rillito River rushing along past N Camino de la Tierra Avenue on Monday morning. The road was closed as stormwater filled the wash.
“Remember, just because it has not rained in the area does not mean there is not a chance for flooding. The heavy rains in one part of town could eventually flow through washes that may have remained dry from rains,” the department wrote on Facebook.
Parts of Pima County had received more than 2.5 inches of rain over the previous seven days, the National Weather Service (NWS) said. More rain was expected on Monday afternoon. Credit: Tucson Department of Transportation & Mobility via Storyful
