KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 — The Health Ministry has recorded 47 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, with local transmissions continuing to be the overwhelming source of new infections in the country.
Of the 47 new cases registered today, 45 were local transmissions with the remaining two imported, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
“Of the 45 local transmissions recorded, 28 were Malaysians and 17 non-Malaysians.
“Therefore, the number of active cases with Covid-19 infectability to date is 591,” he said in a statement here.
According to Dr Noor Hisham, 31 of the local cases were recorded in Sabah while the remaining 14 cases were detected in Kedah.
Seven patients recovered today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 9,196 cases, or 92.75 per cent of Covid-19 cases overall.
In addition, nine people are undergoing treatment in intensive care and four require breathing assistance.
Malaysia’s cumulative total of positive cases now stands at 9,915 and a total of 128 people have died of Covid-19 here to date.
Of the two imported Covid-19 cases reported, Dr Noor Hisham said both the Republic of Maldives and Morocco recorded one case each.
Dr Noor Hisham said 22 of the 31 cases recorded in Sabah were detected from the Tawau sub-cluster, bringing the accumulative figure to 403 positive cases since the cluster first emerged on September 1.
“A total of 383 out of 913 inmates have tested positive so far, while two out of 623 staff tested positive as well.
“Three of the inmates’ and staff family members’ close contacts have also tested positive, as did 15 out of 840 social contacts,” he said.
From the 403 positive cases, Dr Noor Hisham said 176 were Malaysians and the remaining 227 were non-Malaysians, involving nationals from Indonesia (75) and Philippines (152).
As for Kedah, Dr Noor Hisham said 13 of the cases were from the Tawar cluster while the remaining one is from the Sungai cluster.
He also urged frontliners to be vigilant and adhere to the stipulated standard operating procedures as several recently emerged clusters have recorded positive cases from among this group of key medical workers.
