KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 — Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa today gave an assurance that her ministry is on track to provide permanent positions to its contract doctors, amid continued grievances about their employment prospects.

She said 4,263 contract doctors have been absorbed into permanent service so far.

“As stated by the government, our target is 12,800 contract doctors to be absorbed into the permanent position scheme within three years,” she told a news conference at Zecon Hotel in Cheras this afternoon.

Last month, Dr Zaliha said there were 4,914 permanent positions for medical, dental, and pharmacy officers for this year.

She said the openings were due to the resignations of doctors, among other health care professionals, instead of new positions being created for the health service.
