Bloys extended his pact with the WarnerMedia brands, which are now owned and operated by the newly formed Warner Bros. Discovery, around the same time that he landed his new boss, WBD CEO David Zaslav, 140 Emmy nominations for HBO and Max programming combined.

The re-signing of Bloys, who is known for being a very creator-friendly programming exec, also comes as Warner Bros. Discovery is looking for ways to save. The company, which was birthed by the close of the merger between Discovery and WarnerMedia in April, has promised to find $3 billion in cost-saving synergies over the next three years. Some of the initial moves to pinch pennies have included ousting numerous execs, shuttering the very short-lived streamer CNN+, scrapping scripted content at TBS and TNT, exploring an overhaul of DC Entertainment, and halting production on Max originals in Europe.
Locking in Bloys, who has been with HBO since 2004, for at least five more years means giving the prestige brand HBO and the hot, young streamer HBO Max, plus Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Discovery joint venture Magnolia Network (which he began overseeing this spring amid internal re-org post-merger), a sense of normalcy and established direction while the majority of Warner Bros. Discovery remains in flux.
Puck first reported the news Sunday that Bloys had signed a new contract with Warner Bros. Discovery to remain chief content officer at HBO and HBO Max for at least five more years.
