If you rely on a sound machine to help lull your little one to sleep, you’re going to want to check the make and model of yours ASAP. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued an immediate recall of more than 960,000 Hatch Baby sound machines due to safety concerns stemming from the included power adapters, which could create a shock hazard.

The recall impacts adapters included with the Hatch Baby Rest 1st Generation sound machines, of which 919,400 devices were sold in the U.S. and 44,352 were sold in Canada. Users reported that the protective plastic housing covering the power adapters was coming off when being removed from power outlets, leaving the power prongs exposed. This increases the risk of electrical shock if a child or adult accidentally touches the power prongs. The commission notes that there have been two reports of “minor electrical shock,” with 19 reports of the casing separating from the adapters to date.

Impacted 1st Gen Rest sound machines were sold between January 2019 and September 2022 via Hatch, Amazon, BuyBuyBaby. Target, Walmart, Nordstrom, Pottery Barn Kids, and Best Buy, both online and in stores nationwide. Their retail cost was between $60 and $70 at the time. Other impacted models were also sold on Amazon between January 2019 through May 2024 at a retail price between $60 and $200.

You can also check the adapter directly to see if yours is included in the recall. Impacted products will include the following information: model number CYAP05 050100U, “1.0A” amps, “Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co. LTD,” and “Made in China,” which should be printed in black near the adapter prongs. If so, the commission notes that you’ll want to stop using your machine immediately and contact the company for a replacement power adapter.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power adapters sold with Rest 1st Generation sound machines, and contact Hatch for a free replacement power adapter,” they said. “Consumers should unplug the cord, cut the cord on the recalled power adapter, take a photo of the adapter showing the model number and the cut cord, upload the photo, and provide their name and mailing address at www.hatch.co/adapterrecall.” Hatch will also reach out to all registered users directly to notify them of the recall.

Shoppers can contact Hatch Baby Inc. at (888) 918-4614 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or anytime via email at recall@hatch.co with any questions or concerns at all.
