Hasan Minhaj’s ‘Patriot Act’ Season 1 Gets 7 More Episodes From Netflix, Its 3rd New Showrunner

Netflix has given Hasan Minhaj’s “Patriot Act” a seven-episode extension, bringing the total episode count of Season 1 up to 39 from its original 32-episode order. The comedy talk show, which returns with its regular weekly schedule on March 29, is also changing showrunners again.

Prashanth Venkataramanujam, who co-created and executive produces the series along with Minhaj, is also taking on the role of showrunner for the new episodes. He will be the third person to hold the showrunner’s role since the series premiered in October 2018.

Original showrunner Jim Margolis stepped down in May of 2018 and was replaced by Steve Bodow, a former executive producer of “The Daily Show,” from which Minhaj is also an alum.

The weekly comedy show is described as exploring “the modern cultural and political landscape with depth and sincerity. Each week, Minhaj brings his unique comedic voice and storytelling skill to investigate the larger trends shaping our fragmented world,” according to Netflix.

The series won both a Primetime Emmy for outstanding motion design and a Peabody Award last year. Minhaj’s other works include his hourlong comedy special from 2018, “Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King,” and his performance hosting the 2017 White House Correspondents’ Dinner. He is a first-generation American who was Jon Steward’s last hire at “The Daily Show,” where he joined as a correspondent in 2014. He stayed there through the change of hands to Trevor Noah the next year and stayed on the show until August of 2018.

Art & Industry’s Michelle Caputo and Shannon Hartman also executive produce as well as Jennie Church-Cooper of Haven Entertainment.
